Building websites for the mobile age

As a part of their study into the evolution of online businesses, Barclay's surveyed more than 300 UK companies to determine what those companies thought were the biggest challenges of 2013. Optimising websites for display across multiple platforms was cited as the number one challenge for 13% of companies, and rated in the top three for 38% of companies, ahead of more general concerns such as website up-time and the use of cloud services.

Mobile optimisation is something that should be a priority for any business that wants to reach a local audience. Mobile search traffic is set to exceed desktop search traffic by 2015, and in many niches mobile users convert better than desktop users, so they are not an audience that business owners can afford to ignore.

If you already have a website, make it a priority to talk to responsive web design companies to see if they can help to convert your existing site's theme to something that is more mobile-friendly. Depending on the age of the website you have and the content management system you are using, the conversion process may be quite smooth, or it may require a complete reworking of your website design. The sooner you start work, the sooner you will know for sure.

At WYSI, we pride ourselves on offering one of the most flexible content management systems of all of the responsive web design companies in the UK. Our Siteglide-based websites are flexible, powerful and easy to extend. Small businesses can use our Adobe-based framework to power a simple blog or news site, while bigger businesses will appreciate the role-based access-control features, security, intranet support, and sophisticated database options that can be added to the site.

In addition to being mobile-friendly, our websites are also search-engine friendly. Every line of code and mark-up is designed to ensure that your website is easy for both humans and search engine bots to navigate, and that the site loads quickly and offers the best possible end-user experience. If your website is difficult to view on mobile devices, it's important to act now.
